Takapuna roaming

Saturday here. Started off the day with breakfast at the glenfield mall. Had eggs, toast and bacon, although it was a strange sort of bacon that favored more of a ham flavor and apperance. Then Amit and I had a director/editor meeting and talked about the movie scene by scene which will enable to work on my own more effectively in the upcoming week. We then headed to the ocean about 10 minutes drive and went walking about takapuna beach and shops for a short while. Now I'm Back at the school waiting for Amit to get his work visa renewal sorted out with Gerben(his employer, my former school director from last year). That's been my day so far. Yesterday I studio directed a sort of infomecial type show for Triangle TV(which films in south seas' studio). I was in shambles at first but had it down by the end of things...Cut to camera 2! ummmm...there is no camera two. Then cut to whatever camera looks good, hurry!, etc...

New Zealand Rain

Recovered with a decent night's sleep last night and spent the day walking around to various shops and such. got a sim card for my cell phone. I got completely soaked in what turned out to be a fierce cold rain but the sun came out shortly after and I dried off. I got here in time yesterday to witness the last couple of shots for principle photography of the film. Beautiful location in the countryside. Everything here feels refreshing and it's wonderful to be back in New Zealand. I realized how much I really did miss it. Stoped by the school to check-in some gear with Amit and it was so bizarre cause even though everything looked exactly the same, it felt so different and new somehow. Anyway, can't wait to start editing.

I'm off...

15 hour layover in L.A., 12 hour layover in French Polynesia....20 hours flight time...and I've had the worst night's sleep that I can ever recollect. Should be cool.

the deck

Spent all of today painting the deck with wood stain/weather seal for my mom. I got kind of high and disoriented from 7+ hours of exposure to the fumes. I was laying on the drive-way talking to tony on the phone and it felt so great to be one with the hard cool cement. There is a certain liberating feeling found in laying down where no man should sensibly find comfort. - Laying on the cement or asphalt. Incidently, asphalt in new zealand was pronounced ash-falt. In retrospect I wonder if everyone just thought I was throwing around some vulgar American curse-word whenever i made mention of the ass-falt.

iceland feeling

Woke up last night to a chilling coldness. Temperature droped to 49 degrees in the farenhieght. Went from having my AC on full blast to dusting off the old space heater for a bit of warmth(limited to a three foot radius unfortunately). The shed's thin aluminum walls make for poor insulation. I had very vivid dreams of hiding from a redneck that wanted to kill me and my companions, although I don't know what for. There was a hotel that turned into a hospital and I found an abandoned baby that I decided to take care of and raise as my own. A very disturbing feeling arose from this imagery upon waking but the cold air was refreshing and I shook it off. I tried to light the pilot light on the hot tub heater unsuccesfully. Too bad... I wanted one last late-night hot tub session before I left for NZ. It was cold enough finally but the defunct pilot light would not co-op with the sentiment. I wish I could have this winter for some reason. I really am longing for cold weather. It'll be summer in NZ since their seasons are reversed from here. Winter in Auckland is not a fun time anyway though cause it rains constantly. Not thunderstorms with fierce electric flashes and rumbles... no, constant drizzlement or fat drops of cold cold water. I never minded the cold but being wet and cold is just too many elements combining for my tolerance.
