gopher

I know this is totally obscure...but does anyone remember gopher? you know what I mean? Most probably do not. I am talking pre-http: I think I am feeling something... not nostalgia, but...hmm...what do you call it when you feel nostalgia for the future? Anticipation? No, not quite what I am feeling...

saturday...at work!

I took this pic this last week one day after work, down the road from my flat. It's not that bad really. I just had to come to let in the A/C repair man, and stick around for the carpet cleaners. I'll just sit around and listen to music and and email and stuff... Still, I hated to wake up this morning at the normal time. Here's the patch bay and decks right by my desk at work: Usually it has a bazillion cords sticking out of it.

borrowed post

Amit took some pics of our new flat last weekend and posted them on his blog: http://unkreative.com/musings/2006/08/king.html My bedroom is not shown but perhaps that is a good thing as it is in a state of disarray at the moment. There are no closets and I have no drawers or storage bins so everything is just kind of spread out on my floor until I can think of something else. But Amit's room looks nice and tidy.

simple politics

I usually avoid political posts on here. But I was listening to NZ's awful public radio on the way to work to today, as I often do since it is one of the only two stations my car radio will pick up, and I was really appalled at the things I was hearing. Paraphrased comment from a caller: 'Now these Muslims are saying they are migrating here for better quality of life. My question is then, why are they coming here and then not changing?' Radio host response: 'Perhaps it is because they are Muslims first and foremost.' Caller: 'Well, if it's so good then why don't they stay where they are instead of coming here?' Radio host: 'That's an argument, although I won't say it's a winning one.' I guess the radio host couldn't see fit to say something like, "Perhaps because a qualifier for having a better quality of life shouldn't include giving up your religious beliefs." Anyway, the public radio is really horrible here. Despite the fact that it is Govt. funded, it is still laden with the highest commercial to content ratio I've ever encountered. I seriously think the ad percentage has to be somewhere close to 50%. Then a large portion of the talk programs seem to center on sports, even when they are not sport programs. The topics of discussion are often less than compelling. The views expressed on the shows are relatively simplistic and uninformed. I often opt for silence on the way to and from work, as I cursedly wonder why they use a different frequency band in Japan that prevents my car from receiving the bulk of the NZ radio spectrum. There are quite a few used Japanese imports in NZ. My Mitsubishi Galant is one of them. In other racial/theology prejudicial news, I came accross this on boingboing.net: http://www.boingboing.net/2006/08/13/van_full_of_cellphon.html It's a post about how these guys were arrested for being found with a van full of cell phones(over a thousand). Apparently, that combined with their ethnicity makes them extremely suspicious, as they have been arrested for this several times over. The authorities speculate that they were planning on using the cellphones as remote detonators to blow up a bridge, although no explosives have been found. This is just a case of ignorance. Yes a cell phone can be used a make-shift remote detonator, as can any electrical device with an antenna. But why would they need a thousand of them? Do you know how long it would take to ring a thousand phones? Unless they have a thousand friends who could each be assigned to call those phone all at once, but hey, that would jam the cell phone network most likely. I think the more likely story is the one these guys are giving in their deffense, that they bought these phones cause they are on sale for an unbelievably cheap price at wal-mart. Then they probably plan to unlock these phones (from their native tracfone network) and sell them at a higher price as a mobile that can be used on multiple networks. Although it's a bit dodgy, I doubt it's illegal, and it actually sounds like a clever way to make a quick buck. Anyway, enough politics for now.

just working, living

I've felt exhausted all this week and can't seem to get enough sleep. I went to sleep at 7pm last night and woke up at 8am. Even with 13 hours sleep I feel foggy and it's diffilcult to focus. I wonder if it's because there is a tilt to the room and I'm sleeping with my head lower. I say this because whenever I get up from my bed, I immediately feel dizzy. I better re-arrange the energy of my room through the art of feng shui and allow the chi to flow more freely. Anyway, it's time for lunch and I haven't really got anything to say. ...
