touch the sky

She said, "I thought, Wow, could touch the sky!". I imagine so after living in such a place where the smog is so bad you don't see blue when you look up.

from below these heights

From below these heights a person can start to feel a sense of shelter from the sky and the forces of nature.

you can't cage beauty

In the city, they cage these decorative plants so the crazies won't be able to easily rip them out. But the plants start to grow outside of their confines, still no one rips them up. Maybe because of the thorns. Perhaps roses have thorns because they are so beautiful that they would become extinct from being pulled out and given to pretty girls otherwise. Although most people probably don't see it that way, their first instinct when seeing beauty is to destroy it by means of possesion.

a world ago

I thought to myself that I wouldn't miss that place. And in a way, I suppose I don't really. What I miss is myself from that time, living in what seems now like a different world; missing the residual loss of myself, and the dying of the calendar, fragmenting me across a lifetime with no clear connection to my whole. Live and leave, grow and miss. That's all in the end.
